While we found the FIRE community early, not everyone is so lucky. Many Americans approach their target retirement time without a plan for retirement, and perhaps without enough to sustain the lifestyle they hope to keep. Or, they wake up in the 40s or 50s and realize it’s time to get serious as they don’t want to be running the rat race still in their 60s or 70s. Catching Up to FI is a podcast dedicated to help educate, encourage, and support late starters on their path to financial independence. Though you might feel behind the curve, it’s not too late to start!
It was an honor getting to chat with Bill Yount and Becky Heptig for my March 2024 guest appearance on Catching Up to FI.
On this episode, we discussed topics including:
- The role contentment plays in budgeting and your vision of financial freedom
- Why defensive strategies such as an emergency fund and insurance are critical to winning with money
- How budgeting can be freeing instead of constricting
- Different budgeting methods and ways to track your spending
- A walkthrough of all the rungs on our FIRE ladder
